On the 8th September, 1988 Anambra Transport Corporation was launched by colonel Robert Akonobi, and RTD Captain Ude as the General manager of the corporation and Engr. Ralph Ndigwe as the deputy General manager. At the creation of Anambra state on the 27th August, 1991 the fleet of the corporation were divided among the two states Enugu and Anambra state, a new company TRACAS NIGERI LTDwas formed and move to Awka the new capital of Anambra state, TRACAS Hqts. KM 41/42 Enugu-Onitsha Expressway PMB 5032, Tel 08066291715,Awka Anambra State, the new company was incorporated in 1992 while its first board of directors was inaugurated on 23rd October, 1992 with chief Ernest Nwokoye as chairman and Engr. Ralph Ndigwe as the general Manger.

The functions of the company include, among others

i. To carry on the business of carriers by means of transport by land, water and air.

ii. To construct buildings for company garages, store-houses, work-shops for vehicle repair, depots, gas and petrol depots.

iii. To carry into effect any arrangement for joint working in business with any other company, agency, partnership or person carrying on business within the objective off the company.

An Edict was enacted in May 1998 for the company. Engr. Ralph Ndigwe was succeded by chief Hon. SabastineAnekwe when he left, the company was put on lease management to Ozi Nigeria Ltd. When the lease management was abrogated, chief Okonkwo Nnalue took over and was succeeded by Chief Joe Oforkasi, chief frank Igwe latter took over while Mr. Tony Ileka took over from him in 2006 till July 21st 2015. Hon. Arch AmechiEkume took over from in July 2015 as the MD/CEO of the company, on 9th April, 2018 Dr. Ifeoma Madukasi took over as the MD/CEO TRAANSPORT COMPANY OF ANAMBRA STATE [TRACAS] incorporates Anambra State Mass Transit [ASMT], Anambra State City Cab [ASCC]. Under the present chief Executive, Dr. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Madukasi, the different units which were set up and run as subsidiary companies have been merged under one single unit. These were Anambra Mass Transit and Anambra City cab. TRACAS has gone through several phases at one time it was leased to private individual and run as Franchise.
